It’s Time to Ban Greyhound Racing

Yesterday I was delighted to meet Sasha the greyhound at the Scottish Parliament.

Sasha was one of the last dogs to race at Armadale flapping track, West Lothian, just before it closed.

She suffered horrific leg injuries on her first trial and was dumped at the vet to be put to sleep at just two years old.

Fortunately, Sasha was rescued by the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary and recently celebrated her 11th birthday.

I met her when I attended an information drop-in session in the Scottish Parliament to discuss the Greyhound Racing (Offences) Bill with members of the Unbound the Greyhound Coalition.

While there is currently no greyhound racing tracks in Scotland, the SNP Government has recently given its backing to Mark Ruskell MSP’s Bill which would ban greyhound racing in Scotland from ever making a return.

Also present was Christine A Dorchak, President and General Counsel of GREY2K USA Worldwide, a non-profit organisation which campaigns to pass stronger greyhound protection laws and end the cruelty of dog racing internationally.
