17,080 North Ayrshire Households Are Receiving Council Tax Support

The SNP Government has provided local authorities with £147 million to freeze the council tax for all of Scotland’s households.

This will be the 10th year in 17 under the SNP that Scottish Ministers have funded such a freeze.

No doubt that’s why council tax in North Ayrshire is £613 less each year than in England, under the Tories, and £427 less than in Wales under Labour

Meanwhile, in North Ayrshire 17,080 households are being supported through the council tax reduction scheme.

The council tax reduction scheme, which the SNP introduced in 2013, has saved low-income Scottish households over £3,500 million in the past decade, with the average home seeing £800 come off their bills per year.

Across Scotland, 460,830 households receive the council tax reduction, almost one in five, in addition to every household in Scotland being supported through the SNP Government’s fully funded council tax freeze.

Commenting, Kenneth Gibson MSP said:

“Supporting people through the cost-of-living crisis in the SNP Government’s top priority – and these figures show that the council tax reduction scheme is helping people in North Ayrshire.

“In North Ayrshire 17,080 households are being supported. This is on top of every single home in North Ayrshire benefitting from having their council tax frozen from April.

“In the face of economic incompetence from Westminster the SNP is delivering the support people need to get through the cost-of-living crisis and protect household budgets.”
