Construction Boosts Business Start-ups

The number of business start-ups in Scotland increased by around 10% in the third quarter as the recovery in the construction and housing markets encouraged people to launch new businesses.

Said local MSP Kenneth Gibson:

"I am delighted that the number of start-ups in the three months to September was up 9.6% on the same period last year.

"Growth in the number of new construction firms rose to 378 from 287, showing that this sector engine of recovery is now growing strongly.

"Infrastructure is vital to ensure future prosperity, building the homes, schools, roads and hospitals we need, boosting jobs and investment in the process.

"The announcement in the Scottish Draft Budget that the SNP Government will fund and build the Dalry Bypass and Den Realignment was particularly heartening."
