Scottish expertise will help a generation of entrepreneurs set up social enterprises in southern Africa, backed by funding from the Scottish Government.
Scotland’s Social Enterprise Academy has finalised a three-year partnership with Jubilee Enterprise in Malawi, with discussions taking place with local organisations in Rwanda and Zambia.
Social enterprises are businesses that trade for the common good and reinvest any profits to deliver on a social or environmental purpose.
International Development Minister Alasdair Allan, pictured above with Jubilee Enterprise CEO Karen Chinkwita, said:
"Scotland has a long history of developing business models for social good. Today, social enterprises continue to play a role in the economy and have a huge impact on communities all over the country.
“Through promoting social enterprise in southern Africa, Scotland will contribute to its role as a good global citizen, and extend its international impact."
Added Kenneth Gibson MSP, who is a member of the Cross Party Group on Malawi:
“Social enterprises contribute to the global fight against poverty, which is why our collaboration with Malawi, Rwanda and Zambia is so important.”
