Heritage Organisations can Now Apply for £50,000 to £250,000 Grants

Following the success of its smaller grant programme last month, the National Lottery Heritage Fund has now opened a second funding strand, of grants of between £50,000 and £250,000.

These grants have been put in place to help organisations to start to explore recovery from COVID-19 and beyond. This support is to help with operational costs and to safeguard heritage at risk, now and for the longer term.

This second scheme follows on from the strand of £3,000 to £50,000 grants via the Heritage Emergency Fund, a £50 million funding package, to support heritage organisations in stabilising their operations and manage risks to the heritage during the COVID-19 crisis.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund has been working hard to support Scotland’s vitally important heritage organisations, which contribute so much to our sense of community identity, place and wellbeing, as well as to economic drivers such as tourism.

The application process for these larger grants closes on Tuesday 30 June new guidance for applicants is here.

The £50,000 to £250,000 grants are meant to support organisations which:

  • make an outstanding contribution to places and communities;

  • focus on heritage which is at risk as a result of COVID-19;

  • have received significant past investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund; and

  • are able to demonstrate a track record and future potential to deliver strongly on our outcomes, notably inclusion, wellbeing and the economy.

Kenneth Gibson MSP welcomed the funding:

“To have this option for such significant amounts of funding will be extremely helpful for groups looking to realise large-scale projects.

“Please note that this category does not replace the initial funding offer; heritage organisations across North Ayrshire can still continue to apply for the smaller grants of between £3,000 to £50,000 until 30 June. It just means there is now an option to apply for more expensive projects.

“Everyone at the Fund is really motivated to offer significant assistance to heritage organisations and their projects across Scotland and to process applications successfully.

“Whether you apply for a smaller or larger grant, please get in touch with them via their website as soon as possible.

I hope this information is useful and if you have any queries do not hesitate to get in touch with me."
