First Minister to Address Global Circular Economy Conference

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon MSP will speak at Circular Economy Hotspot Scotland, a three-day event run by Zero Waste Scotland in collaboration with Circular Glasgow, a Glasgow Chamber of Commerce initiative.

The conference will run from 30 October to 1 November, supported by funding from both the SNP Government and the European Regional Development Fund through the £73 million Resource Efficient Circular Economy Accelerator Programme.

Other speakers include Dr Leyla Acaroglu, an international sustainability expert, as well as Wellbeing Alliance research director Dr Katherine Trebeck and SNP Government Chief Economic Advisor Gary Gillespie.

Iain Gulland, Chief Executive of Zero Waste Scotland, said:

“I am delighted that the First Minister has agreed to address what is set to be one of the major circular economy events of the year, not just in Scotland, but globally.

“This is an exciting time in Scotland’s journey towards becoming a fully circular economy. With the public and businesses more attuned than ever to the problems caused by waste and climate change, there has never been a better time to be making the case for making things last and getting maximum value from our resources.”

Kenneth Gibson MSP added:

“The circular economy model is set to become central to a more sustainable Scotland and we will shortly welcome delegates from around the world to foster new connections between local businesses and international circular economy organisations.

“In 2017, Scotland won the World Economic Forum’s Circulars Award in recognition of its pioneering approach to the circular economy and I am delighted that our First Minister will have the opportunity to share this approach at the Hotspot event.”
