At Holyrood I met with Julie Dickson and Simon Wilson from British Gas, and John Downie from the British Gas Energy Trust, to talk about the support on offer to help households beat the January chill.
Changes by Ofgem to the energy price cap mean average household bills increased by 5% (£94) on 01 January – at the beginning of what could be the coldest three months of the year.
The British Gas Energy Support Fund provides grants of up to £2,000 to thousands of energy customers with debt. Importantly, you do not need to be a Scottish Gas customer to be entitled to support from the British Gas Energy Trust.
With energy prices going up at what is set to be the coldest three months of the year, I want to make sure people know the support available to help them. I encourage anyone who is struggling to speak to their energy supplier and organisations such as the British Gas Energy Trust.
