A walk-through COVID testing centre at Harbour Road Car Park, Harbour Road, Irvine KA12 8PS has opened to provide testing options for people with and without coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms.
Tests must be booked in advance via NHS Inform or by phoning 0800 028 2816. The site is open daily from 08:00 - 20:00.
The site also stocks Lateral Flow Test home test kits, which can be collected free for twice-weekly use. These kits can also be ordered via the free 119 phone line.
Kenneth Gibson MSP welcomed the opening, saying:
“Now that restrictions have eased, testing is more important than ever to help protect ourselves and each other against COVID, especially with the Omicron variant rearing its ugly head. This facility in Irvine will make it easier for people in North Ayrshire to get tested, with or without symptoms.
“If you do have symptoms and reasonably suspect you have the virus, I recommend that you book a test at NHS inform or by calling 119 at no cost as soon as you can.
“While we know COVID vaccines have already saved around 28,000 lives in Scotland, they don’t guarantee that you can’t still get the virus or pass it on to others; therefore even if you don’t have any symptoms, it is advised to test regularly using lateral flow devices, which are available for collection at the site.”
Walk-through test centres provide testing for people with COVID-19 symptoms. These are:
A high temperature or fever
New continuous cough
Loss of, or change in sense of smell or taste
People with symptoms should book a test at nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect or call 0800 028 2816 if they are unable to access the online service.
Support for people who need to self-isolate is available, including a £500 self-isolation support grant for low income workers.
