On Friday morning, Patricia Gibson MP and I met with Aquafil Plant Director Kenny Fairbrother and W & J Knox Director David Sloan.
Aquafil lease the site from W & J Knox and were part of that company prior to 2014.
Aquafil is the last producer of nylon yarn for carpets in the UK and employs 32 people in Kilbirnie.
COVID, Brexit and a doubling of energy costs have all combined with difficult trading conditions to create a perfect storm.
However, the meeting was very constructive and the Scottish Government, UK Government and North Ayrshire Council have all now been contacted for assistance.
We will continue to do all we can to secure Aquafil’s future in Kilbirnie.
