North Ayrshire Council (NAC) has won gold for the second year running in the the Healthy Working Lives programme, part of NHS Scotland, which gives people the opportunity to work in ways that sustain and improve their health and wellbeing.
The council’s portfolio of evidence included: the launch of a physical activity programme designed to get primary school pupils active for at least 15 minutes a day; targeted promotion of the council’s own mental health and wellbeing policy; the launch of a dedicated employee ‘stop smoking group’ and a revised policy around ‘smoke-free’ council grounds; the roll out of water bottles for office-based staff.
Said Kenneth Gibson:
"This award shows the progress made by NAC whilst it was under SNP Leadership.
"Encouraging young people to develop healthy habits, from exercise to non-smoking will not only help to ensure longer lives but better health throughout."
