New Social Housing for Largs

Cunninghame Housing Association (CHA), working in partnership with North Ayrshire Council and the SNP Government has completed a new build development at Dippie Gardens, Waterside Street, Largs.

This £1.1 million project provides 12 much needed new one-bedroom amenity flats for rent.

Each flat has been designed with lift access making all flats accessible to people with mobility problems. The work was carried out by Ayrshire based RDK Construction which entered into a design and build contract with CHA to deliver the project.

An official ceremony formally marked the completion of the project and the honours were carried out by Craig Hatton, Executive Director (Place) North Ayrshire Council, pictured.

The name of the new development, Dippie Gardens, reflects the history of the site where the new flats have been built and the Dippie family who lived in the former lodge house for many decades. Dippie family members attended the ceremony to share in the occasion and to commemorate their local family history.

Frank Sweeney, Chief Executive, CHA, said:

“This project is another excellent example of partnership working to provide quality homes in an area where much needed demand for affordable housing exists. We are delighted to once again have the support of our strategic partners North Ayrshire Council and the SNP Government to enable us to deliver these new high quality homes."

Craig Hatton, Executive Director (Place) North Ayrshire Council added:

“This is a fantastic development that demonstrates the success of the partnership approach to develop housing. The new homes will enable older people to live independently whilst the construction works has enabled a number of apprentice opportunities for young people to develop the skills required to secure long term employment.”

Added Kenneth Gibson:

“Many of us recall fondly the wee cottage that once stood on the site of the new flats and Mr Dippie, who lived there until he passed away at the ripe old age of 101. It is fitting that these much needed new amenity flats, which are state-of-the art are named in his honour.

”Everyone agrees that partnership is what helps to ensure more and more vital developments are brought to fruition and many more will be, should the SNP Government be re-elected.”
