Following Kenneth Gibson MSP’s intervention last week, NHS Ayrshire & Arran has now agreed to ease their hospital visiting restrictions.
As of today (20 December) each patient can identify one designated person to visit. Visitors must comply with government guidelines by wearing an appropriate face mask and maintaining social distancing.
The length of visit and number of visits allowed will be determined by ward staff and based on the environment and clinical needs of the patients.
Furthermore, virtual visiting will remain in place to allow patients to connect with their loved ones over the festive period.
Kenneth said:
“I am delighted that NHS Ayrshire & Arran has decided to adapt their visiting protocol in hospitals.
“I understand that the health board must ensure the safety of their vulnerable patients as Omicron cases rise. Nevertheless, I am pleased that patients will now be able to meet with loved ones over the festive period.
“If visiting a hospital, please ensure you take a lateral flow test beforehand to ensure the safety of your loved one and other patients.”
