NHSAA responds with Reassurances: All 65-79 Year Olds willReceive First COVID Vaccination by 14 Feb

Having raised urgent concerns to NHS Ayrshire & Arran Chief Executive John Burns regarding the roll out in Cunninghame North of the vaccination programme and after Mr Burns was pressed on the matter by the First Minister and Health Secretary, Kenneth received the following reassurances from him this morning:

“I wish to give you and your constituents assurance that vaccine supplies have now been delivered to all GP Practices and were delivered between Monday 01 February and Wednesday 03 February. All GP Practices are in the process of engaging with each patient as a matter of priority to ensure they are vaccinated as quickly as possible. All practices across Ayrshire and Arran aim to conclude the delivery to the 65-79 years, patients who are shielding and/or housebound cohort by 14 February.

“The vaccine supply and availability is coordinated by National Procurement and we continue to work with colleagues on a daily basis to ensure that there is no delay in providing vaccines to our GP Practices to support the delivery of COVID vaccination programme to those who are extremely clinically vulnerable. I am sorry for any anxiety caused to patients whilst they await their appointment.

“I’d like to take this opportunity also to advise that with regards to mass vaccination, clinics previously scheduled for the end of February are being brought forward to take place between Saturday 06 February and Sunday 14 February, which will mean individuals aged between 65 and 79 and living in the community in Ayrshire you will be vaccinated more quickly.

“Appointment letters are dropping to Ayrshire addresses with the details of when and where to attend for vaccination. It has been highlighted via a news release that individuals may receive an appointment scheduled for the next day and that this does not leave a lot of time to reschedule appointments or plan journeys, so members of the public are encouraged to look out for their letter and may need to be ready to come to their appointment at short notice to ensure they can receive the vaccine quicker.”

Please find the current calendar of inoculation dates in your nearest centre above.

Further information such as how to reschedule, can be found here.
