On Thursday, I took part in the International Day of Reflection marking 30 years since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
In just 100 days, perpetrators, including members of the Hutu government's army, militias, and civilians, committed atrocities that claimed the lives of 800,000 people.
Yet, in the decades since, Rwanda has undergone a remarkable transformation, focusing on forgiveness and reconciliation.
Today, Rwanda serves as a testament to the potential for unity and collective healing to address the most profound divisions and conflicts.
Among the voices that amplify this message of survival and renewal is Chantal Mrimi, motivational speaker, Woman of the Year at the Scottish Women’s Awards in 2018 and adopted Fifer.
As a Rwandan survivor, Chantal shares her powerful narrative as a refugee, inspiring others with her journey of overcoming adversity.
