I warmly welcomed the publication of the first in a series of documents from the SNP Government, which shows how Scotland in the UK compares to other similar-sized independent European nations.
The paper (link below) outlines how other comparable nations are wealthier, happier and fairer than Scotland currently is under Westminster control.
Scotland has everything it takes to be a hugely successful nation, yet Westminster control has held it back while comparable countries of a similar size prosper.
It’s always better to make your own decisions than leave them to your next- door neighbour. Independence puts power into the hands of Scotland, not UK governments.
From Australia to Canada to New Zealand to the United States - which had to fight for independence from the UK, not just vote for it - Scotland, like other independent nations will flourish with the self-confidence, ideas and innovation independence inspires - able to harness our economy and natural resources, while working globally as an equal partner in the family of nations to deliver fairness, equality and prosperity for all who live and work here.
A decade of Tory austerity coupled with a Brexit that Scotland didn’t vote for has made us poorer and the cost of living crisis is deepening for people across North Ayrshire.
Scotland has the ambition to be a better nation - but it’s only with the full powers of independence that we can make that hope a reality.
