Scotland Declared Top Global Tourist Destination

In recent weeks, Time Out Magazine named Edinburgh and Glasgow respectively the best and top four city to visit in the world in 2022, while Portree featured as one of the World’s Greatest Places of 2022 according to Time Magazine.

Scottish destinations furthermore featured in three categories voted for by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine and Scotland also received the reader voted ‘Eco Award’ at The Times Travel Awards.

These awards, from leading international publications, are a fantastic recognition that Scotland is already seen among the very best destinations in the world.

This summer, Scotland is also welcoming hundreds of thousands of spectators to some of the world’s leading courses as part of the Summer of Golf, and we have started the countdown until the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, which takes place from 03 – 13 August next year across Glasgow, Glentress Forest and the Nevis Range.

The Championships, which will be held in will be the single biggest global cycling event as 13 existing individual World Championship cycling disciplines combine into one mega event for the first time.

Kenneth Gibson MSP said:

“Now that the pandemic has subsided this is the first summer that Scotland is able to properly open its doors and welcome visitors from all over the world again.

“It’s great to see our beautiful country being recognised and in particular the tourism and hospitality sectors will be grateful to receive this boost in custom and income, helping them not only to recover further but to grow.”
