At the Scottish Parliament I attended an event to discuss how best to implement the Scottish National Optimal Lung Cancer Pathway (SNOLCP) based on the recommendations from the Scottish Pathway Matters Report.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Scotland, contributing to nearly a quarter of all cancer fatalities in 2020.
The event featured a contribution from Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, the UK’s leading lung cancer charity and brought together MSPs, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders during Lung Cancer Awareness Month to talk about the Pathways Matter Report and the necessary steps to successfully implement the SNOLCP at both Health Board and national levels.
Some of the issues discussed were the importance of early diagnosis in lung cancer, identifying barriers to optimising the lung cancer pathway and raising awareness of health inequalities associated with lung cancer in Scotland.
