Transport Secretary Michael Matheson MSP has announced a further £61.4 million to support bus operators in their provision of services between 01 April and 27 June 2021.
This is in addition to up to £191.3 million the SNP Government has made available to support bus services since June 2020.
Mr Matheson said:
“This funding is vital to ensuring the survival of our bus operators.
“These resources are subject to regular reconciliation to ensure we are not over or under paying operators and actual spend in 2020-21 is forecast at £144.5 million.
“Funding only covers the gap between additional operational costs due to COVID-19 and the loss of fare revenue due to physical distancing and reduced demand.”
Kenneth Gibson MSP added:
“The SNP Government is committed to ensuring that bus services continue to operate throughout the pandemic, despite the precipitous fall in customers due to lockdown restrictions.
“This funding will support the operators, their workforce and bus passengers who rely on these vital services.”
