I attended the official switch on of the new Floodlights Ardrossan Academy Rugby Football Club .
This was made possible by sponsorship from James Frew Ltd, whose mascot ‘Flamish’ is in the photo and a very generous grant from SUEZ Communities Trust through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund; a grant application strongly supported by Patricia Gibson MP and me.
Ardrossan Academicals RFC was established in 1922 and is a very friendly sports club, open to all the communities of North Ayrshire.
In this, its centenary year, the club aims to promote fitness through sport, and also offers space to the local community for social activities and has a range of men's, women's and junior rugby teams.
The existing floodlights were broken or inadequate. The new units use LED lights, making them more energy efficient and ‘future proof’ the system.
The new lights will allow the pitch area to be fully lit and mean that all users of the pitches will be able to use the amenity safely, particularly in the winter months.
