Minister for Energy and Environment, Gillian Martin MSP, has confirmed that her amendment at Stage 2 of the Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Bill 2023 will ban the use of scares and will not include a licensing scheme for any purpose.
The Minister highlighted that evidence demonstrates that the use of snares is an unacceptable risk to animal welfare of both target and non-target species and more humane alternative methods are available.
With up to 72% of animals trapped in snares being non-target species, this proposed ban will end the suffering of wild, companion and farmed animals.
