UCI Cycling World Championships, Glasgow 2023

Today I attended an exhibition in the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of the inaugural Union Cycliste International (UCI Cycling) 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships which will be hosted in Glasgow and across Scotland from 03-13 August 2023.

It will be the single biggest cycling event in history, bringing together 13 existing individual cycling world championship disciplines into one mega event and will welcome 2,600 elite cyclists, including para-cyclists, from more than 120 countries.

I myself had a go at a time trial race simulator and was narrowly beaten by Green MSP Mark Ruskell, who had the best time.

Arran High School Mountain Bike Club is one of many across Scotland working to improve skills, uptake of cycling and facilities - in their case at Dyemill Forest, Lamlash, where I was involved in expediting the construction of Forestry and Land Scotland bridge last autumn to improve access.

While the World Championship road races between Edinburgh/Loch Lomond and Glasgow can be freely attended by anyone, tickets for events that require one went on sale on Friday morning - exactly six months until the competitive cycling begins.
