Working Together for SCotland's Life Sciences

I was pleased to convene the Cross-Party Group (CPG) on Life Sciences Annual General Meeting and be re-elected Convener at our first in-person meeting since pre-pandemic. Attended by MSPs, industry and academia, our group discussed industry challenges and how we can increase the capabilities of companies operating in Scotland in this rapidly growing and important sector of our economy. I was delighted to welcome Gary White, Deputy Industry Chair of the Life Sciences Scotland Industry Leadership Group (ILG) on the future of the group; Ivan McKee MSP, Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise providing an update on the industry and Scott Cooke, General Manager, UK & Ireland of Bristol Myres Squibb to discuss their recently published report, Reimagining the Future of Life Sciences 2030. With 41,700 people across Scotland employed by 800 companies, it is imperative that we continue to highlight and develop this ever-expanding industry and develop our innovative ideas and bring to fruition products to benefit the lives of Scots and millions around the world. I enjoyed the presentations, questions and answers and networking and thank Alison Culpan, Claire Headspeath and the team at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Society Scotland, who do so much to ensure we have interesting and informed speakers at our CPG.
