DALRY DELIVERY OFFICE

Last Tuesday I visited Dalry Delivery Office to discuss recent challenges in providing a regular and reliable service to constituents in Dalry and Kilbirnie.

This related to Delivery Rounds:

• KA25 Duty 10 (includes addresses in the KA25 7AH, KA25 7DS, KA25 7JS and KA25 7AS postcode area)

• KA25 Duty 16 (includes addresses in the KA25 6LN, KA25 6BS and KA25 6LL postcode area),

• KA24 Duty 6 (includes addresses in the KA24 5BN postcode area)

• KA24 Duty 30 (includes addresses in the KA24 5HF postcode area).

I joined Michael Hogg, Senior Public Affairs Manager at Royal Mail, Fraser McNaughton, Delivery Manager, Royal Mail Ayr HQ and Jamie Ambrose, Dalry Customer Operations Manager.

We had a frank discussion about the challenges in the past 18 months or so, and Royal Mail acknowledged their shortcomings in some Dalry and Kilbirnie delivery runs impacted by a combination of staff sickness and wider resourcing challenges.

I reiterated that numerous constituents were facing unacceptable delays in receiving very important mail.

Royal Mail’s representatives explained that a major factor is serious challenges with staff recruitment and retainment.

At its peak, the staffing shortfall within the delivery office stood at 13 employees, resulting from nine vacant positions and four members of staff on long-term sick leave - from a compliment of 31 staff.

Encouragingly, Royal Mail had recruited four new posties for Dalry Delivery Office since April and are in the process of recruiting three more.

Services have since improved although staff shortages remain.

The Operations Performance Leader and Customer Operations Manager advised that the team in Dalry continue to work flat out to deliver mail six days a week to addresses in the KA24 and KA25 postcode areas when there is mail to deliver.

If you or someone you know would like to serve your community by working for Royal Mail, please see their job advert:

Royal Mail, unlike some competitors, offer employment on permanent contracts, with good salaries and pensions as well as a range of other benefits

In light of this active recruitment, I trust that constituents in Dalry and Kilbirnie will see an improvement in the service provided by Royal Mail.

I continue to cooperate with Royal Mail wherever possible to ensure improvements transpire, highlighting when constituents are not the receiving the service they should.
