Meeting the SCPA
On Thursday in Parliament, I had the pleasure of meeting Skye and Bear- two rescue dogs supported by the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Scottish SPCA), Scotland’s leading animal welfare charity.
During the visit, I learned more about the charity’s vital “Pet Aid” service.
Since its launch in 2023, Pet Aid has delivered nearly 45,000 meals and helped more than 8,300 pet owners keep their much-loved animals at home during times of hardship.
The charity has also supported 564 animals through its low-cost veterinary scheme in just the first half of 2025.
The Scottish SPCA has also strengthened its rehoming efforts through a new matchmaking service that helps prospective adopters find the right dog.
This targeted approach has already cut average kennel stays from 127 days to just 58, ensuring animals can settle into loving homes more quickly.
In total, the charity’s rescue and rehoming centres cared for over 12,000 animals last year.
Skye and Bear are now thriving in loving homes with devoted carers. However, many dogs and other animals are still waiting for the chance to be adopted into permanent, caring homes.
