Sponsoring the Scottish Plastics and Rubber Association’s Parliamentary Reception

Last night’s Holyrood event hosted in partnership with the Scottish Plastics and Rubber Association (SPRA) and the British Plastics Federation (BPF), was a great success, with more than 100 participants.

The plastics industry is crucial in supporting national and economic security while advancing a sustainable circular economy.

The event also provided an opportunity for the sector to discuss key opportunities and challenges, including the forthcoming closure of ExxonMobil’s Fife Ethylene Plant at Mossmorran, which has produced base materials for plastics for over 40 years and whose closure will put hundreds of jobs at risk.

Scotland’s plastics and rubber sector employs over 7,600 people and contributes £1,900 million to the Scottish economy.

My thanks to speakers Isy Ferguson, President of SPRA, Philip Law, Director General of BPF, and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Energy, Gillian Martin MSP, for their valuable contributions and to organiser Harriet Dyball.

Ms Martin expressed the SNP Government’s commitment to working with industry leaders and stakeholders to ensure this vital sector continues to innovate, grow sustainably and strengthen Scotland’s economic resilience.
