CAMPAIGNING TO END CERVICAL CANCER

During #CervicalCancerPreventionWeek I was pleased to meet Samantha Dixon, Chief Executive, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust at Holyrood as the Trust called for action to eliminate cervical cancer in Scotland.

Each year 323 women in Scotland are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 95 lose their lives. Fortunately, cervical cancer is largely preventable with HPV vaccination and cervical screening.

Cervical screening coverage in the Ayrshire & Arran is just 71.7%, meaning that almost one in three women in Cunninghame North don’t attend their screening when invited.

Jo’s Trust are doing everything they can to inform and support women to take up these measures with the aim of making cervical cancer the first cancer in the world to be eliminated. I support them as they work with the NHS to improve the uptake of HPV vaccination and screening locally and across Scotland.
