Major Investment at Hunterston

I recently attended a public consultation event at West Kilbride Village Hall, hosted by subsea cable manufacturer XLCC which is set to bring a subsea cable manufacturing operation to Hunterston.

I discussed the plans with Project Director, Alan Mathers, who explained how the brownfield site will create a new industry to support global decarbonisation targets by connecting solar and wind renewable power generation in the Sahara to the UK for the Xlinks Morocco-UK power project.

I remain very supportive of the project, which is scheduled to create 900 permanent jobs at Hunterston.

As it begins to level up its local workforce, XLCC recently announced the appointment of an initial 12 apprentice cable-jointers from Ayrshire College and also attended the North Ayrshire Employment Fayre which I organised with Patricia Gibson MP last week.
