Yesterday, I raised the charges levied by the UK Government’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for converting to, and investing in, net zero fishing vessels.
Despite the pressing need for the fishing industry to decarbonise, fishers face sizeable fees from the MCA for modifying their vessels to be net zero.
While it’s disappointing the UK Government will not act to help smaller vessels decarbonise, the SNP Government has given £900,000 in support of fuel efficiencies and adaptation of fishing vessels.
