Sponsoring an Exhibition Stand for the Scottish Association for Marine Science
ast week from Tuesday to Thursday I sponsored an exhibition stand for the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) in the Scottish Parliament.
Their exhibition was to enable interaction with MSPs and their staff and increase understanding of SAMS and the vital contribution they make.
Founded in 1884, and based at Dunstaffnage near Oban SAMS is one of the oldest marine science organisations in the world.
Throughout its history, SAMS has played a leading role in advancing our understanding of the marine environment, from studying Scotland’s biodiversity to contributing to international work on ocean health.
Today, their scientists undertake important research into marine ecosystems, climate change, and the sustainable use of our seas.
SAMS also maintain specialist facilities, including research vessels, culture collections, and laboratories that support innovation in areas such as renewable energy, aquaculture, and blue carbon.
In addition to research, SAMS provides undergraduate and postgraduate education, helping to train the next generation of marine scientists while working in partnership with industry and coastal communities to support the long-term health and resilience of our marine environment.
They even have their own tartan, which I’m wearing in the photo.
