Funding Boost for Trainee Teachers

The SNP Government has announced it will invest £2 million to train an extra 260 teachers next year.

More places will be made available at each of Scotland's teacher training universities.

The intake will consist of 60 primary and 200 secondary student teacher places, taking total annual intake to 3,290.

Kenneth Gibson MSP said:

"The SNP Government is keen to ensure we have the right number of skilled teachers in each of our schools. This welcome investment will help us achieve that goal.

"The new Strategic Board for Teacher Education will look at workforce planning, particularly in the secondary sector, to consider the specific needs of each education authority. This will ensure we have the right number of teachers across the curriculum in every area of Scotland."
