Convention of the Highlands and Islands meets in Cumbrae

Today, the Convention of the Highlands and Islands heard keynote speeches from Fergus Ewing MSP, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Connectivity; John Swinney MSP, Deputy First Minister and Humza Yousaf MSP, Minister for Transport and the Islands, pictured with local MSP Kenneth Gibson, who said:

I am delighted that the Convention of the Highlands and Islands was held at the Field Studies Council Centre in Millport, Cumbrae.

Issues of importance to island communities such as in Cumbrae and Arran, ranging from housing to digital connectivity to employment and skills and Scotland’s place in Europe were discussed.

With the SNP Government currently taking an Islands Bill through the Scottish Parliament which will ‘islands proof’ future legislation, it shows that the needs of Scotland’s island communities are at the forefront of our thinking.”
