Kenneth Gibson MSP is delighted that the Dalry Bypass - which he campaigned and lobbied Ministers to build for over a decade - will open on Thursday, 30 May, seven months ahead of schedule.
Mrs Mary McInnes, one of Dalry's oldest citizens and ceremonial VIP who turned 100 last month, will join Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson, community representatives and schoolchildren from Dalry and St Palladius Primary Schools, Mr Gibson and local SNP Councillor Joy Brahim.
Mrs McInnes will be the first to be driven on the new road before it is expected to open fully to the public at around 10am.
Mr Matheson will provide a brief welcome and introduction before cutting a ceremonial ribbon and will present our VIP with flowers before driving on the new road.
The £31.2 million scheme which began construction in July 2017 and was set to open by the end of this year, is around seven months ahead of schedule.
The project has involved construction of a 3.8km bypass to the east of the North Ayrshire town which includes a viaduct over River Garnock and the Glasgow to Ayr railway line.
Said Mr Gibson:
“I am delighted that this road, which I began campaigning for in 2007 has now been completed.
“It will be a great boon to Dalry. The improvements will help reduce congestion, and improve road safety and air quality in Dalry. It will also aid connectivity with Saltcoats and Kilwinning and encourage greater inward investment and jobs.
“Some people said that the bypass would never be built. It has; thanks to our SNP Government and supported by the people and communities of the Garnock Valley and across North Ayrshire.”
