Charities and councils across Scotland have received £350,000 from the SNP Government to provide support for children from low income families during the school holidays.
Centrestage in Ayrshire, as well as national charity Cash for Kids Community Food Initiatives North East, Moray Food Plus, and Milton Holiday Hub in the Highlands will share this funding, with Centrestage receiving £54,000.
Centrestage has expanded their Dignified Food Project since the Easter holidays and with this additional funding, they will roll-out the project to 12 areas across Ayrshire, including Kilbirnie and Ardrossan in Cunninghame North.
Communities Secretary Aileen Campbell MSP said:
“The school holidays are a time for fun, but I know it can be a struggle for families when schools are closed.
“That is why we are working in partnership with the third sector and councils to provide more places where children and young people can go during the school holidays to play, socialise, and, importantly, have a nutritious meal.”
Kenneth Gibson MSP added:
“Centrestage has an excellent reputation for providing nutritious meals in a way that respects the dignity of everyone that accesses their services, regardless of background. I am therefore delighted that the SNP Government have chosen to support their work with this £54,000 award, which will doubtlessly improve the lives of many children across Ayrshire this summer.”
