Breathing Space and Other Helplines offer Free Mental Health Support

Free mental health helpline Breathing Space Scotland is raising awareness of how people prone to social isolation and loneliness can stay in touch with others during the COVID-19 crisis. Please find some useful information below.

Kenneth Gibson MSP said:

“Vulnerable and older people may feel more isolated and lonely over the coming weeks, with the COVID-19 guidance advising everyone to limit social contact.

“Staying in touch, whilst protecting family, friends and loved ones is important and can make a big difference to people who are feeling alone at this time.

“For many, the telephone will be the easiest and most accessible way to keep in contact. Keeping in touch digitally, through video chat, WhatsApp groups, instant messages or texts may also be an option.”

The following organisations offer support:

Breathing Space Scotland: 0800 83 85 87 - advisors are available in the evenings (6pm - 2am) and at the weekends (24 hours) for anyone feeling low, anxious or isolated.

The Silver Line: 0800 4 70 80 90 - friendship and advice 24 hours a day to assist older people.

Samaritans Scotland: 116 123 - volunteers who will listen or talk through your worries (available 24 hours).

Digital services are also available:

Mind: practical advice and checklists on your wellbeing in relation to coronavirus.

Mental Health Foundation: information on topics such as stress management and keeping active during the coronavirus outbreak.
