£877,000 SNP Government Funding for North Ayrshire Families

Families in North Ayrshire will benefit from £877,000 of funding from the SNP Government to support the continued provision of free school meals during the summer holiday period and other food provision to help low income families.

Children in North Ayrshire eligible for free school meals will benefit from £379,000 funding from the SNP government to support the continued provision of free school meals during the summer holiday period, and £ 498,000 for the wider provision of food support.

This funding is part of a £27.6 million package announced by the First Minister and will ensure that North Ayrshire is able to continue providing free school meals during the summer holidays, with other food provision to help low income families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kenneth Gibson MSP said:

“The coronavirus pandemic has put real financial pressure on families, and I am pleased that the SNP Government has ensured that North Ayrshire Council can continue to provide free school meals and support families, children and young people who need some extra help at this challenging time.

“Free school meals are vital for many North Ayrshire families and are an important way of ensuring their children receive the nutritious food they need. That is why it is so important that support continues while schools remain closed.

"Should you be unable to access or afford food and cannot get the help from family, friends or neighbours, please call the national assistance helpline on 0800 111 4000 (textphone on 0800 111 4114) from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.”

Callers will be put through to speak to someone at North Ayrshire Council, who can advise on what types of help are available.
